Provincial Land Tax

Provincial land tax is a property tax charged on all land in areas of the province located outside of municipal borders.  The taxes collected through this program fund the cost of provincial services in these areas.

Reform of the PLT System

After extensive consultations in the north, the Ontario Government decided to proceed with the reform of the provincial land tax system.

The government will implement a current value property assessment system in areas located outside of municipal borders which is similar to that in the rest of Ontario.

Starting in 2009, current value assessment will be the base used to determine the tax.
