Ontario Health Premium

The Ontario Health Premium is deducted from employee pay and pension cheques through the income tax system.

The actual amount of the premium for the year is determined when you file your annual income tax return.

Revenue from the premium will contribute about $2.6 billion to the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care for the 2007-08 year.

The Ontario Government intends to invest in and reform the health care system by:

  • shortening wait times
  • expanding primary and community-based care
  • increasing the number of doctors and nurses
  • delivering results in a more cost effective manner, and
  • ensuring that the system has the resources it needs.

If you would like to find out how this premium affects you, please view this chart from the Ministry of Finance.
