Ordering New Decals for 2006

To receive your decals for the registration year January 1 to December 31, 2006, please complete the 2006 Annual Renewal Request for IFTA Decals, IFTA 407 and return it before December 31, 2005 with the proper payment. Your cheque should be made payable to the 'Minister of Finance'. If you are requesting additional decals for either the registration year 2005 or 2006, please complete the Request for Additional Decals - IFTA 421 form and be sure to use the correct form which will show the 'Expiry Year of Decals' as either December 31, 2005 or December 31, 2006. If you do not use the correct form, you may receive the wrong decals and will have to reorder at an additional cost. Once your 2006 Annual Renewal Request for IFTA Decals - IFTA 407 form is received by the ministry, your 2006 licence and decals will be mailed to you, providing your account is in good standing. For your account to be in good standing you must have filed returns for all reporting periods and paid all taxes (including penalties and interest) due.

Displaying Your 2006 IFTA Decals

Early Display

Your IFTA decals for 2006 may be displayed as of December 1, 2005. If you display your 2006 IFTA decals from December 1, 2005 to December 31, 2005, you will need a copy of your 2005 IFTA licence as well as your 2006 IFTA licence in your qualified vehicle(s).

Grace Period

Renewed carriers are allowed a two-month grace period to display the current 2006 year IFTA licence and decals (credentials). If you have applied for, but not received your 2006 IFTA credentials by January 1, 2006, you will need to continue to display your 2005 IFTA licence and decals until you receive your 2006 IFTA credentials.

Note: The deadline for displaying 2006 IFTA credentials is February 28, 2006.  If you do not carry the proper documentation while travelling, you may receive a fine and be required to buy a single trip permit.

Information for Quarterly Reports During Periods of Hurricane Relief Efforts

Although Ontario did not waive fuel taxes, other jurisdictions may have implemented special instructions for reporting fuel usage during periods of hurricane relief efforts. You will need to review each jurisdiction's notice to determine if you qualify and how to report for those jurisdictions that have implemented tax or licensing waivers.  Please visit the IFTA website www.iftach.org for information regarding hurricane relief instructions provided by IFTA jurisdictions.

Interest Rate on Unpaid Amounts

The current interest rate (effective October 1, 2005) applied to the underpayment of taxes is 5% per annum from the due date.
